Most of our weddings are London & Surrey based so we were particularly excited about Sara & Ben’s wedding. Bassmead Manor Barns is a beautiful venue tucked away in rural Cambridgeshire (completely randomly it is only a few miles from where Ally was born & spent the first 18 months of her life!).
Having met at university in Cambridge, Sara & Ben got engaged in 2014 in a remote cottage in Northumberland. On a glorious July day with their friends & family gathered around them, they said their vows & were married!
The day was seamless & perfect, from the bridal prep in the gorgeous Boudoir Suite through to dancing under a blanket of sparkly lights in the barn at the end of the evening.
Sara & Ben, we’re thrilled that you chose us to document your wedding – it was an absolute delight to be a part of your special day! Here are just a few of our favourite photos…
Ally & AJ
Early on in the day I had a wander around the farm. As well as hosting weddings, Bassmead is a working farm. As I was shooting some location shots the farmer drove up & stopped for a chat. Turns out he knows my Uncle Tony who used to farm a few miles away. It’s a small world!
The wedding day for Sara began with getting ready in the lovely Boudoir Suite at Bassmead.
Just before the ceremony Sara had her closest girlfriends, along with her Mum & future Mother-in-Law join her in the suite for a glass of champagne.
The handmade welsh gold engagement ring – an acknowledgement to Sara’s heritage – arrived the day before Ben was planning to propose! Their weddings rings were made by the same person.
Whilst the girls were drinking champagne the boys engaged in a spot of croquet…
The ceremony took place in the nostalgic & aptly named Rickety Barn. Wooden floors, exposed brickwork and beams that were most definitely rickety provided the perfect backdrop for the vows.

We spent 20 minutes with Sara & Ben to capture their beautiful portraits. Thankfully they were completely happy with traipsing through the fields so that we could get these stunning shots!Guests came from all around the world. Sara’s Mother is American & so there was a large contingent from the States!Sara broke with tradition & gave a speech! Some traditions weren’t broken though with her Dad embarrassing her in his Father-of-the-Bride speech!Ben & Sara were the first to try out the S’more’s bar in the courtyard. An American favourite!
What a truly fabulous day!
