We had an absolute blast photographing the Crystal Palace Overground Festival in SE19 this weekend, what a fabulous local community event! Here’s a little flavour of the weekend…
Sunday saw the the Jubilee Gardens in Crystal Palace Park transformed into a vintage fair as part of ‘Vintage up the Palace’, complete with an old fashioned knobbly knees competition!
The food demonstration tent hosted many of the local restaurants. The smell of this traditional Sri Lankan curry made by Margosa Dining had people queuing up to get a taste whilst venue sponsor, Good Taste, presented beer and cheese – with tastings of course!
Back at Vintage up the Palace, Swing Patrol gave festival goers a chance to show off their dance steps and to learn some new ones!
Thursday and Friday night saw Coopers Yard transformed into an open air cinema, complete with retro cinema signage and a red carpet. Hosted by local BAFTA nominated film maker Chris Sheperd, Friday night saw a screening of Submarine, the debut feature by Crystal Palace legend Richard Ayoade from the IT Crowd.
Thursday night saw Crystal Palace Station favourite, Brown & Green, transformed for Comedy in the Cafe. 40+ people squeezed into the tiny cafe to be entertained and humoured by comedians such as John Kearns, Jenny Collier and Ian Smith. At times I laughed so hard I the camera shook…!
A little rain didn’t stop the Sha La La’s closing Vintage up the Palace on Sunday afternoon! Whilst Crystal Palace train station played host to classical performers, the high arches in the recently renovated building provided the perfect acoustics!
